ACL INJURY RISK ASSESMENT
The ACL Injury Risk Assessment at Thrive Primary Care represents a pioneering approach in sports medicine.
It is specifically tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by female athletes. This comprehensive program is designed to identify early signs of injury risk, thereby paving the way for more personalized and effective prevention strategies to reduce that risk.
At the heart of this initiative is a multifaceted assessment protocol that combines cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of female physiology and biomechanics.

Dr. Megan Babb has extensive training and experience in musculoskeletal related disorders and injuries.
In addition to being a board certified physician, she also has her certification in both ACL injury prevention and ACL return to play through the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine.
She has worked with thousands of female athletes, helping them all reach optimal performance in their play with a multi-disciplinary evidenced based approach that focuses on the unique needs of the female athlete.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
In the initial consultation meeting, Dr. Babb will start by gathering a full health history of the athlete. This is followed by a musculoskeletal evaluation, providing a baseline understanding of an athlete's physical condition. This is complemented by various types of objective testing which seeks to pinpoint areas of potential vulnerability by evaluating an athlete's physical capabilities. Isokinetic measurements (individual muscle strength testing) of the lower extremities along with video analytics of joint function, further refine this analysis, offering precise data on muscle strength and endurance, which are critical factors in injury prevention.

In the one-hour follow up visit, Dr. Babb will discuss the athlete's overall injury risk and present the athlete with a comprehensive plan complete with a binder of individual activities the athlete can do to help her gain strength, endurance, flexibility and decrease her overall injury risk.

By encompassing a wide range of evaluations, the ACL Injury Risk Assessment offers a holistic approach to preventing injuries, optimizing health, and enhancing performance among female athletes because she is more than the sports she plays.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...
Father of ECNL Player
My daughter went from the slowest on her team to the fastest in a matter of 12 weeks. It is amazing at how much changes when you focus on the right things. Will continue to work with Dr. Babb on this and have recommended all of our friends.

WNBA Player
I am a professional athlete and have been coming back to Dr. Babb for years because she is the only physician I have worked with who looks at me as an entire person. It is clear that to her, I am more than the sport I play. Couldn't recommend her more.

Parent of Competitive Tennis Player
Our daughter experienced injury after injury as a competitive athlete and it was Dr. Babb who diagnosed her with EDS. No physician ever mentioned that to us before and in fact prior to our daughter doing her progrom we never heard of it. Our daughter continues to shine on the tennis court but now stronger and less injury prone.

DI Soccer Athlete
I first started working with Dr. Babb my Sophomore year in high school. Now I am entering my senior year in college and run her program every year without fail. I am already starting to have talks with teams in the NSWL. This was the best investment my parents made for me as an athlete.

FIBA Basketball Player
I didn't know how much I didn't know about the nutrition required to maintain a high level of performance on the court. Once Dr. Babb identified what I was doing wrong with my diet, I no longer expereinced a fourth quarter crash
UNLOCKING THE ELITE ATHLETE MINDSET
MENTAL BLOCKS
A Hinderance to Performance
Mental blocks can significantly hinder an athlete's performance at the highest levels of competition due to their profound impact on both physical execution and mental focus.
At the core, a mental block is a psychological barrier that disrupts an athlete's ability to perform a skill or task. This interruption can stem from various factors, including anxiety, fear of failure, past traumatic experiences, or overwhelming pressure to succeed. When an athlete encounters a mental block, their cognitive processes become clouded, making it difficult to concentrate and execute movements with precision and confidence.

One of the primary ways in which they negatively impact an athlete’s performance is by disrupting muscle memory and coordination. High-level athletes rely heavily on their body’s automatic responses developed through rigorous training and repetition. However, a mental block can interfere with these automatic processes, leading to hesitation, overthinking, and a breakdown in the fluidity of movements.

In addition to this, mental blocks can erode an athlete’s self-belief and create a cycle of negative thinking. This psychological state can create continuous struggles leading to decreased motivation, burnout, and even withdrawal from the sport entirely.
MENTAL RESILIENCE
An Objective Solution
Mental resilience is a cornerstone of elite athletic performance. At the highest levels of competition, the physical abilities of athletes are often comparable, making mental toughness a distinguishing factor.
Mental resilience enables athletes to maintain focus, manage stress, and recover quickly from setbacks.
This mental fortitude is essential for enduring the rigorous training schedules, high-stakes competitions, and the inherent pressures of being at the top of one's sport.

At The Female Athlete Initiative we strive to help female athletes reach peak mental resilience and wellness so that they can reach peak performance in competition.
